| Description : Weight: 80 - 130 pounds Height: male: 26-28, female: 24-26 inches Color(s): Pure White-no color markings with black pigmented nose leather, lip and lid edges, dark footpads.Overview: The Polish Tatra Sheepdog originated in the Podhale, a small, mountainous region in southern Poland. Developed as a livestock guardian, the breed is also used for personal protection, as guard dogs for private property, for military and police work, carting, and as guide dogs.Coat: Heavy Double coated. Top coat hard to touch, straight or slightly wavy. Profuse, dense undercoat.Character: Independent, self-thinking, highly intelligent, able to assess situations without human guidance.Temperament: Generally very gentle with well-behaved and mannerly children, makes a good family dog. Will not tolerate abuse from children or adults.Care: Sheds its undercoat profusely in late spring - must be brushed and groomed. Rest of year it stays remarkable clean due to its self-cleansing coat. Dry mouthed-does not drool.Training: Needs early socialization and then throughout its entire life. Must have basic obedience training. Good fencing a necessity and mandatory.Activity: The Tatra will adapt to both indoor and outdoor living. However, indoor dogs will often request three to four hours outside.
