| Description : A McNab on the farm will work for life. A tireless breed, the swift and agile McNab will herd and protect anything belonging to his master, whether it be his cattle or his boots. As a pup, the McNab begins by herding poultry, then it's on to sheep until it can effortlessly shepherd a flock of five hundred, only stopping when it is too old to carry on. Whereas a Border Collie can work for many people, the McNab is a one-person dog. It won't tolerate strangers or stray animals, and unlike the Border Collie's "eye", the McNab controls via barks and growls. Though hardheaded, the breed's affectionate nature means it works and protects with a good temperament. Intelligent and energetic, The McNab will make a playful and loyal pet, if you have the stamina. They require a minimum of one hour of exercise a day. Because of their need to control, early training and socialization is essential. They will tug and bark to get their own way, so they need to be taught who's boss. Unusually protective for a collie, it is wise to choose a friendly pup. The longer-haired McNab may need some brushing, but the breed has a tendency to groom itself expertly. Since it has been bred primarily for performance, not looks, the McNab has very few genetic problems. |
